 Product Description

Author is: King, Duane H Book Is A Softcover
In 1838, Federal troops imprisoned 13,000 Cherokees in preparation for their removal from their native lands in the southeastern United States to the Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma). The removal of the Cherokees lasted two years & resulted in more than 5,000 deaths. This new trade paperback edition of Cherokee Trail of Tears has an insightful & informative text by Duane King discussing the six major routes of the trail & the seventeen Cherokee detachments that were pushed westward into Oklahoma. It also includes first person accounts & journal excerpts from those who traveled with the Cherokee. In 32 pages of color photographs, a touching & memorable photo-essay by David Fitzgerald looks at the major landmarks of the trail in nine states, as they appear today.
